Happy Monday! These past few weeks we have seen numerous breaches and hacks, and to no surprise, here we are again. Yesterday, reports came out stating that twenty-three Texas governments were infected with ransomware. The attack occurred on August 16th, and emergency responders are still actively working to bring those systems back online. Although no information has been released as to who caused the attacks, authorities believe it came from a single threat actor.
In other news, researchers at the German company, Fraunhofer SIT, recently found 40 major flaws in VoIP phones. These flaws leave attackers the ability to intercept phone calls, and even gain additional access to the company network. Since the flaws have been found, the VoIP phone companies have patched the flaws, and released updates. If your company is using VoIP phones, the recommendation would be to update the firmware as soon as possible to prevent any future hacks.
Lastly, as a reminder, our CEO, Richard Astle, will be sitting on the panel at the North Kingstown Chamber of Commerce Cybersecurity event on September 12th, 2019 at 4:00 P.M. Register online here ASAP if you plan to attend!
