DoD Names Chair for CMMC Program

Happy Monday! Last week, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) began during a cyber attack that hit Las Vegas. City officials have been actively working to determine where the attack began. As of now, officials are saying that the attack began with a malicious link in a city employee’s email. This breach comes during the issues with Iran and cybersecurity expert, Garvin Bushell, thinks they are to blame.

In other news, the Department of Defense named Ty Schieber, the senior director for executive education at the University of Virgina’s Darden School Foundation, as chair for it’s cybersecurity certification program, the CMMC. He will lead a 13-member governing body, which will be made up of members of the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), the cybersecurity community, and academic institutions.

Finally, a new major cybersecurity event, called CSA SECtember, will begin this year on September 14, 2020 in Seattle, WA. This will be a three-day event, featuring in-depth training sessions, networking, and global cybersecurity expert speakers. The Cloud Security Alliance is making it their mission to educate the cybersecurity industry on trends and issues affecting the cloud and the industry in general.
