Good afternoon and happy Monday! I’ve got some news regarding Adobe Flash Player, but first I want to talk about an exciting event that starts today! The Security Operations Summit & Training event will be taking place from July 30th-August 6th. This event features a two day, in-depth Summit, which will focus on tactics and strategies needed to improve operational quality. After the Summit, you will be able to choose one from six information security courses, and you will take that hyper-course over the next six days. Another event that’s a little ways away, on August 27th, is the “Defense Innovation Days 2018” at the Marriott in Newport, Rhode Island. This event is put on by SENEDIA, to bring together companies who are developing products to protect our country’s security. Make sure you stop by NeQter Labs’ booth to meet the team and learn about our product!
Flash Player Concerns
With the recent talk of security vulnerabilities, Senator Ron Wyden has requested that the government stop the use of Adobe Flash Player. The Flash software has an end of life date in 2020 and the Senator believes that once Adobe stops supporting the software with security fixes, it is only going to become a bigger issue. Wyden said, “The federal government has too often failed to promptly transition away from software that has been decommissioned.” Wyden thinks that there needs to be a change, to prevent any unnecessary future attacks. Senator Wyden called for a mandate that government agencies stop deploying new Flash-based content on any federal website starting within 60 days, and require all federal agencies to remove Flash-based content from their sites by August 1, 2019. He also wants Flash to be removed from all employee desktop computers by the same date.
That’s all for today! Thank you for tuning in to this week’s segment of “Mondays With Miranda!” Keep up to date with current news by following NeQter Labs on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. As always, if anyone has any questions, feel free to email [email protected]. Have a great week everyone!
